McCook Park sits in a quiet residential pocket of Newmarket, just 5 kilometres from Brisbane's CBD, where families gather around electric barbecues beneath a welcoming gazebo. The playground draws children while teenagers gravitate toward the basketball court, creating a pleasant hum of community activity. The park's centrepiece soccer field serves the local Newmarket Football Club, whose canteen has earned a reputation for exceptional chips, bacon and egg burgers, and surprisingly authentic Syrian chicken and rice that rivals restaurant quality. While the toilets require a bit of a walk and the soccer field can appear patchy during dry spells, the covered seating areas and ample parking via the Finsbury Street entrance make it a practical choice for weekend barbies and family gatherings in Brisbane's northwest.
